The Minnesota Vikings have made a couple of roster moves ahead of the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
First, running back Myles Gaskin was signed to the practice squad and wide receiver Lucky Jackson has been released from the practice squad. Gaskin and linebacker Benton Whitley have been elevated to the active roster.
The elevation of Whitely is particularly interesting since fellow pass rusher Marcus Davenport was listed as questionable yesterday.
If Davenport can't go, D.J. Wonnum would likely be called upon to start. Whitley provides another option on the edge and could see some time in kick and punt coverage.
Alexander Mattison will be the workhorse RB but it's likely other backs will work in. Gaskin has started 17 games in his career and represents the best receiving threat out of the backfield for Minnesota. If Gaskin is active, I wouldn't be surprised to see him get on the field for third downs.
Other than Davenport, the Vikings are healthy across the board. Davenport will likely be a gametime decision after being listed as questionable on Friday with an ankle injury.
The Vikings will kick off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern.
Vikings injury report: Davenport questionable
The edge rusher is a late addition to the injury report.
