Last season, the Las Vegas Raiders struggled o both sides of the ball. The defense was expected to have somewhat of a bad year, just based on the players they had on the roster. Sure, they had Maxx Crosby and Chandler Jones, but only one-half of that duo showed up.
Now the offense, that is a different situation. They were expected to be elite, especially with the addition of Davante Adams, the best receiver in the game. Of course, the offense was bad. It was too inconsistent, which is crazy, considering the Raiders had the league's leading rusher in Josh Jacobs and Adams on the outside.
It wasn't good, as sometimes it looked like it was trending n the right direction, and other times it looked like they were taking two steps backward.
But 2023 could be different. This year could be special on offense from everything we are hearing and what we have seen in the preseason and training camp.
Raiders OG Van Roten details offense
The offense this year will look a bit different in terms of who is running it. Jimmy Garoppolo isn't an elite quarterback by any stretch of the imagination, but he is really good at running a system. He is one of the best system quarterbacks in the league, which isn't a bad thing at all.
But the offense will also look a bit different because they will be ready for anything this year.
"We have a really good group of guys, especially in the OLine room. Everybody wants to learn; everybody's eager," offensive guard Greg Van Roten started to say. "This offense, it's an awesome system, has an answer for everything. So, it's just the more reps you get in it, the better you're going to be at it. So, we just need those reps together. Again, it sounds cliché, but that's the point of training camp, is to get reps together."
The Raiders will have an answer for everything; at least, that's what we are being told. That is something that would somewhat be drastically different from last season, where I feel the offense wasn't the best at making adjustments throughout games last season.
Van Roten was signed this offseason, and for him to already notice that is huge, too. Not to mention he is coming from the Buffalo Bills last season, which was one of the best offenses in the league.
Maybe this could be something special.
