The Detroit Lions play their second preseason game Saturday. This is a big game for a lot of guys because this maybe be their last big chance to leave an impression before the team starts to make their decisions on who they plan to cut on August 29th.
As we know, the starters won't be playing in this game and neither will Jameson Williams after he suffered a preseason ending hamstring injury on Wednesday. So this game is all about the young guys.
Here's five guys that need to impress against the Jags if they hope to nail down a spot on the 53 man roster.
Dylan Drummond

The Lions need receiver depth after Jameson Williams injury and the waiving of Denzel Mims. They have two choices. They can go with the undrafted rookie on the roster, or they could go shopping. If Drummond can go out and there and have a good game on Saturday, he can make the Lions decision a little more easier. Of course the Lions may still go shopping, but they might be shopping for less after Drummond proves himself.
Chase Lucas

People seem to be split on the former seventh round pick. I’m not sure Lucas is going to make it while my friend and former Pride of Detroit colleague Erik Schlitt thinks Lucas can definitely make it. Who’s going to be right in the end? If Lucas is going to have a chance, he’s going to have to have a much better outing than he did against the Giants last week. I’m not sure he can do that. We’ll see.
Benny Snell

The Lions are looking for a someone to fill that running back three role. I think Snell is the guy that can do it, but he’s going to have to show that to Dan Campbell and company. Snell got limited touches in his Lions debut last week. He should see a lot more field this week since Jahmyr Gibbs is expected to sit this game out. He needs to show that hard running ability that he showed with the Steelers before he got buried on their depth chart.
Matt Nelson

Nelson had a rough game against the Giants. he got knocked on his butt on multiple occasions and got blown up on others. Germain Ifedi had a much better outing and is probably going to make the roster because of it. But the Lions could still use more tackle depth and Nelson still has a chance to be a part of that tackle depth if he can rebound with a better game against the Jaguars.
Nate Sudfeld

Yes, Sudfeld had a bad game last week and yes, Teddy Bridgewater is in Detroit now. But that doesn’t mean that Sudfeld doesn’t have something to fight for. There’s still a practice squad spot on this team and Sudfeld has to fight with Adrian Martinez in order to get it. Sudfeld has looked good at camp, but he needs to put that on the field against an opponent during a live game. If he can, he should be able to carve out a spot in Detroit. Worst case scenario for him, he carves ou a spot somewhere else.
How to watch and stream Lions vs Jaguars
Week two of the preseason is here for the Detroit Lions! The Lions will welcome in the Jacksonville Jaguars for their last game in Ford Field until Week 2 of the regular season. We already know that the starters will be out for the Lions in this one. So get ready to see what some […]
