Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels scored a big win over Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Vols on Saturday.

2024 five-star defensive lineman Kamarion Franklin announced his commitment to Ole Miss on Saturday afternoon, choosing the Rebels over Auburn, Miami, and Tennessee.

Franklin, 6-foot-5/265 lbs from Lake Cormorant, MS, is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 2 player in state of Mississippi.

Tennessee wasn't shocked to miss on Franklin — the feeling going into Saturday was that Franklin wouldn't be picking the Vols.

But Franklin's decision to commit to Ole Miss was certainly a bit surprising.

Auburn was considered the team to beat ahead of Franklin's announcement. And Miami was considered Auburn's main competition.

Kiffin, however, managed to keep Franklin in state….for now at least (there's still a long time until the early signing period in December).

There's no shame in the Vols losing out on Franklin to an in-state school. You can't win them all. And Heupel and his staff have won their fair share of recruiting battles over the last few months, so there's nothing to be worried about here.

Still, this was a player that Tennessee would've love to have on their roster. Now they'll have to watch Franklin excel in Oxford for the next couple of years.
