The Kansas City Chiefs can't seem to catch a break at the defensive tackle position.

Star DT Chris Jones hasn't yet rejoined the team after a contract-related holdout kept him away for the entirety of training camp. Tershawn Wharton came back from the active/PUP list, but he only participated in a few practices before heading back to the sidelines due to his knee injury.

Now, the team is dealing with an injury to a promising player who is participating in his second offseason with the Chiefs. According to Chiefs HC Andy Reid, DT Matt Dickerson is dealing with what can be a very painful injury.

"Matt Dickerson, as far as injuries go, has a turf toe," Reid said. "Other than that it's the same guys. There's nothing new really to give you."

With proper rest and recovery, a mild turf toe injury can heal on its own. In other cases, turf toe injuries can require surgical intervention. It's not entirely clear the severity here, but it certainly hurts the team's depth and Dickerson's roster chances.

Daniel Wise, who was the first player up in place of Jones in preseason Week 1, was relegated to backup duties in preseason Week 2. Dickerson and Keondre Coburn rotated in with the first-team defense against the Cardinals. It certainly helps the chances of players like Coburn and Danny Shelton, but this puts more stress on a position group that was already one of the weaker ones on the team.

As far as other injuries are concerned OL Nick Allegretti (shoulder), CB Nic Jones (hand), WR Nikko Remigio (shoulder), CB L’Jarius Sneed (knee), WR Kadarius Toney (knee), and DT Tershawn Wharton (knee) were all missing from practice with injuries on Monday. Chris Jones remains absent due to his holdout. Kekoa Crawford missed practice because he was waived and replaced by a new receiver.
