The New Orleans Saints got their second preseason win on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers. Further than the victory, they got a win for their defensive line, too. Former first-round picks Payton Turner and Bryan Bresee looked quite impressive.
Turner forced a fumble, then Bresee recovered it for a game-changing defensive play. Turner also recorded a sack. Bresee looked explosive in both the run and pass game. The rookie got a lot of attention from national and local media throughout his snaps for how athletic he looked.
Both of these linemen need to make an impact this season for the Saints. Turner has not seen the field too often in his first two seasons – due to injury. If he can stay healthy and create pressure, the DL looks much different in New Orleans.
Bresee projects to get plenty of snaps this season as a rookie. He is a different style of lineman that the Saints don't possess outside of him. Wreaking havoc inside will make life easier for players like Cameron Jordan and Carl Granderson off the edge, too.
Keep an eye on this duo for the Saints this season.
