Former Tennessee Vols baseball star Drew Gilbert has been absolutely raking since getting traded from the Houston Astros organization to the New York Mets organization.
Gilbert was traded to the Mets just before the MLB trade deadline for future Hall of Fame right handed pitcher Justin Verlander.
The former Tennessee standout was assigned to the Double-A Binghamton Mets after the completion of the trade.
Gilbert is hitting .345 with a .978 OPS since arriving in Binghamton. He's also hit three home runs with Binghamton, which includes a solo shot on Tuesday night that was accompanied by the best "nonchalant" bat flip I've ever seen.
Check it out at the end of the video below.
That wasn't quite as epic as Gilbert's bat flip after his walk-off grand slam in college against Wright State, but it was a great bat flip for the situation (up 5-0 in a minor league game in mid-August).
Gilbert is quickly becoming a fan favorite in the Mets organization and for good reason — the former Vol brings energy and passion every single night. And more importantly, he's bringing results. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Gilbert make his big debut at some point in 2024.
