Is this the game the Panthers finally let loose?
The Panthers plan to play their starters for a few series in the preseason finale. Frank Reich at least said so early in the week. The preseason finale could be the place where Reich and his coaching staff finally let loose and really tune things up heading into the regular season.
3 things to watch in Panthers-Lions game?
- The third shot with the first-teamers: Reich said he will play the starters in the final preseason game, which means another shot for Bryce Young's unit that hasn't looked great. They may be able to actually potentially score their first touchdown of the preseason. But don't go into the game with expectations for it.
- Offensive line improvement: The talk of the Panthers preseason has been the horrible play of the offensive line. This marks the last week the team will enjoy preseason game action before snaps actually count moving forward. If they can keep the quarterbacks upright, the Panthers' offense may be able to string together some scoring plays.
- Making sense of the receivers: Reich declined to share details on DJ Chark Jr.'s hamstring injury that kept him out of Wednesday's practice, and Laviska Shenault Jr. has also missed time. Adam Thielen and Jonathan Mingo are the lone top-of-the-unofficial-depth-chart receivers with full availability expected against the Lions. Panthers on-lookers will get a chance to see what they are made of.
