It's game week for the Cincinnati Bengals, and quarterback Joe Burrow is going to be a full participant at practice for the first time since July. Head coach Zac Taylor said that Burrow being a full participant during Wednesday's practice is the expectation during his presser.
It's been well over a month since Burrow strained his right calf, and with him back at practice, the conversation shifted towards his participation level past his recovery. According to Taylor, his daily conversations with his quarterback are focused on the season-opener against the Cleveland Browns more than anything else.
"We talk way more about Cleveland than about any of this," Taylor said referring to Burrow's recovery. "I think that's on y’alls' minds, but for us it's focusing on the game plan, and those are 99.99% of our conversations."
That's pretty much all he needed to say to put any concerns about his injury to bed. While Taylor has kept Burrow's status as "day-to-day," there's very little doubt whether or not Burrow will suit up on Sunday. Going full into preparation is enough evidence for that.
Once Burrow is out there, Taylor can only do what he can as a coach from the sidelines. Dictating how Burrow gets the job done is out of his control at that point.
"You gotta let him go," Taylor said. "Once you're playing in the game, the game's there and you just gotta go play the game."
How Burrow manages in his first game after just two weeks of practice will surely be interesting to watch, but all signs have pointed to him being in a good place physically as the season begins.
And that all the focus is on the game instead of how his calf feels.
