Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow said on Wednesday what Cincy fans have been waiting weeks to hear.
"I'm ready to go," said Burrow when asked about his status for Week One against the Cleveland Browns. "We're going to see how these next couple of days play out because you never know with these things. But I'm expecting to play. We'll see how these next couple of days go."
Burrow, who said he had a good day at practice on Wednesday, suffered a calf strain in late July just after training camp started.
The former LSU standout returned to practice this week, which signaled that he should be good to go for the season-opener against the Browns (not that his status was ever seriously in doubt).
Burrow, who is eligible for an extension this offseason, was also asked about his contract situation. The two sides (Burrow and the Bengals) have kept contract talks quiet. But the superstar quarterback made it clear that sitting out or "taking it easy" has never entered his mind as he continues to work toward an extension with Cincinnati.
Instead of worrying about the contract, Burrow, who noted that he's throwing the ball as well as he ever has, said his focus has been entirely on beating the Browns on Sunday.
