The matriarch of the Kansas City Chiefs is no longer with us, but she'll never be forgotten.

Norma Hunt, the wife of founder Lamar Hunt, and mother to CEO and Chairman Clark Hunt, passed away on June 4, 2023. She leaves behind an incredible legacy, including her incredible streak of being the only woman to attend all 57 Super Bowls.

During the course of the 2023 NFL season, the franchise will ensure that her legacy lives on. Players will wear commemorative patches on home and away Chiefs jerseys that feature Norma's "NKH" initials in gold lettering at the center of a football.

The patch will be worn on the right side of the jersey, opposite the Lamar Hunt "LH" patch that is worn on the left side of the jersey. The goal is for the patches to serve as a visual representation of Norma's partnership with Lamar, which is now embodied in the Chiefs franchise.

The team also announced the creation of the Norma Hunt Super Bowl Champion of Education program. Each year a female educator will be selected to attend the Super Bowl and be honored for their commitment to education beginning with Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“My family and I are so proud to honor our mother’s life and legacy this season,” Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said, via press release. “My mom loved football, and she loved the Chiefs. She also believed in the power of sports to unite communities, and the impact sports can have on young people. While it will be difficult to begin football season without her, we look forward to continuing her legacy of attending every Super Bowl with the creation of the Norma Hunt Super Bowl Champion of Education program.”

The program will honor Norma's dedication to education and her lifelong love for the game of football.

The team also announced they'll hold a ceremony commemorating the life of Norma Hunt at halftime during Thursday's NFL Kickoff Game against the Detroit Lions.
