And though the Panthers are expected to play a number of starters in Saturday's preseason matchup with the New York Jets, Pineiro's injury may force him to be ruled out. But head coach Frank Reich on Thursday revealed that the injury, though a factor, is not super concerning moving forward.
"He's doing well," Reich said. "He's progressing well. We're going to be cautious. Eddy has established himself to be our kicker. We want to make sure that we stay ahead of this thing and wait until he's full strength before we get him back out there."
The Panthers and having kicker troubles are somewhat synonymous. However, taking into account what Reich had to say, it isn't an injury that should keep anyone up at night.
It is reported that the Panthers are expected to look at Matthew Wright, for his career, is 40/46 on field goal attempts and 35/37 on PATs.
