It's almost time. The real football is almost here. The last time we saw the Kansas City Chiefs in a live-action football game was when they last hoisted the Lombardi Trophy on February 12.

Now, preseason games don't mean everything, but it's important that we see some of the rookies and bubble roster guys against another team.

For the rookies, this is technically their first game ever in the NFL, even if the record and stats don't matter or count. The Chiefs have at least 20 rookies, drafted and undrafted, that will be playing for the first time.

It can be a rush, as everything happens all at once. However, the best player in the world has a message that should stick with the young guys.

"Cut it loose," Mahomes said to the media on Friday. "We throw so much at them at training camp, coaches, Nagy, and Spags, and all of them; they do a good job of kind of simplifying it for the game.

"So, let's go out there and play fast. Don't worry about making mistakes. Go out there and fly around. Let your natural talent and your ability show. You have learned it; you have been coached up with it. Trust yourself."

On Sunday against the New Orleans Saints, we will get to see a bit of Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Rashee Rice, Wanya Morris, Chamarri Connor, Nic Jones, B.J. Thompson, Justyn Ross, who is technically a rookie, and a whole bunch of other guys who will be on the field for the first time in their NFL career.

It is important to remember not to judge a player's entire career off of one preseason game. If they play badly in their first-ever game, it doesn't mean they will be a bust or bad player. This is a lot of these guys' first time ever playing against NFL players, which is far more advanced than the college level.

I'm sure Mahomes' powerful message comes from someone telling him that a few years ago. When he was a rookie, and he didn't start, I'm sure someone like Alex Smith told him to be free and play loose. Now look at him.
