One preseason game may not be everything at the end of the day, but it does do something to help you see where a team/player is at.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are showing a lot in their preseason opener against the Steelers, but one issue is becoming too clear to ignore.
The Ke'Shawn Vaughn experiment needs to end.
Vaughn came to the Bucs under very tough conditions. Any guy that the entire league sees as a reach is going to be up against it as far as expectations are concerned, and a young back joining the Buccaneers is only going to see their job become even harder based on the history at the position in Tampa.
The Bucs have one of the worst run schemes in the NFL and rarely have opportunities for depth running backs, but even knowing that isn't enough to save Ke'Shawn Vaughn.
The experiment needs to end.
Vaughn currently has seven carries for four yards in the opener. Yikes.
Part of that isn't on Vaughn, but it is also fair to say that a guy that has been on the team for so long and was drafted so high should be able to get at least one yard per carry, even when it is so obvious that a run is going to happen.
Vaughn's skillset of speed and size should make it impossible to ever lose yards on a run, yet here we are.
The young back out of Vandy just doesn't bring enough to the table to warrant his staying with the Bucs. He obviously doesn't up the offense when he does get reps, and all his playing does it take reps away from other depth options that could actually pan out down the road (like Sean Tucker).
If this game is any indication, this should be one of the last preseason games where we actually watch Ke'Shawn Vaughn play in a Buccaneers uniform.
The only results so far have been disappointment.
Buccaneers still have huge issue in first preseason game
It has to get fixed.
