Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase is "ticked off" entering the 2023 season.
Don't worry. He's not mad at his teammates or coaches. In fact, he's not even mad at an opponent.
According to Chase's father, Jimmy, the superstar wide receiver is ticked off because he missed four regular season games last season.
"He was real anxious to get back because he never really had an injury before," said the elder Chase during a recent appearance on In the Trenches. "He never really had to miss any games. That's the thing that drove him — he hates missing a game."
"He's still kind of ticked off about that," Chase's father. "He keeps repeating to me 'Well dad, I missed four games'. He feels like he let his team down. And he could've done better statistically if he would've played those four games."
Chase caught 87 passes for 1,046 yards and nine touchdowns last season despite playing only 12 games. Over a full 17-game season (Cincy played just 16 games last season because of the cancellation of the Buffalo Bills game where Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest), Chase's numbers from 2022 would extrapolate to 123 receptions for 1,481 yards and 13 touchdowns.
The former LSU star missed time last season while dealing with a hip injury. Cincinnati went 3-1 in the games that Chase missed in 2022 (the lone loss was to the Cleveland Browns on Halloween night).
While the Bengals were able to survive the four game stretch without Chase, it's still less-than-ideal to not have one of the best wide receivers in the NFL on the field.
Chase is eager to make up for the missed opportunities from the four games that he was out last season, which could certainly be bad news for the defensive backs on the Bengals' schedule this fall.
