The New Orleans Saints are adding a familiar face to their running back room. No, he's never dawned a Saints uniform, but he does have plenty of experience in LSU gold and purple. The team is signing running back Darrel Williams, according to Nick Underhill. Williams is a veteran runner with great upside in the receiving game. He makes a ton of sense for what the Saints need for depth.
Not to mention, Williams has very strong local ties. Not only did he attend LSU for college, his high school ball was played at John Ehret, located in Marrero, Louisiana. He's no stranger, and fans will love that.
In 2021 with the Kansas City Chiefs, Williams totaled over 1,000 scrimmage yards and 8 total touchdown. He also went 191 touches without fumbling.
That's dependable, and the Saints will need that from their depth at RB. We all know that they like to keep fresh bodies on the field at that position, so expect two see plenty of Williams.
For Williams, he returns home to play a key role for New Orleans. The Saints will be without Alvin Kamara for the first three games due to suspension. Rookie RB Kendre Miller is banged up right now, but he is expected to be ready for Week 1. Regardless, Williams is a great insurance policy for the Saints this season.
