For the third straight year, Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson has cracked the NFL Top 100, a list of the 100 best NFL players entering the current year as voted by the players.
Hendrickson has made the list three times since the offseason he joined the Bengals, and has consistently stayed in the same range of the ranking. He was voted the 73rd best player in 2021, the 78th best player in 2022, and he's now the 75th best player in 2023.
Hendrickson's ranking is a testament to how established his reputation is among players from around the league, not just his teammates in Cincinnati. He's been a Pro Bowl selection for the last two years and has developed into one of the top sack artists in the game currently, though 2022 was a down year in that regard.
Though his pressure rate and run defense improved, Hendrickson's sack total decreased from 17.5 (including postseason) in 2021 to just eight in 2022. That his drop in sacks wasn't enough to deter other players from voting him higher than the year prior is honestly impressive.
Sacks obviously don't tell the full story when it comes to pass rushers in general. Hendrickson usually finishes around the quarterback regardless, but more importantly, he's the most consistent Bengals defender to generate any sort of pressure. It's what made him a top five most valuable player on the roster not named Joe Burrow.
That value reflected well in this year's Top 100 list.
