The New Orleans Saints had a lot of positive takeaways from day one of training camp practices on Wednesday. That being said, everything is fluid in the NFL. Apparently, one important player did suffer an injury on day one.
Offensive tackle Trevor Penning has a foot injury. He did not practice on Thursday. Penning missed most of last season with a foot injury. Saints head Coach Dennis Allen says that the two injuries are not related, though.
Penning is vying for a starting OT role for New Orleans. James Hurst is his largest competition after he held that role for much of last season. The team added veteran Storm Norton during free agency for depth at tackle, too.
It is certainly a situation worth monitoring for Saints fans. New Orleans needs Penning, a former first-round pick, to step into an impact role as soon as possible.
