The Buffalo Bills just got some bad news for their offensive line.

I previously wrote about how the offensive line needs to take an important step next season, and this isn't going to help that. Joe Buscaglia reported that OT Brandon Shell was not at practice on Tuesday because he plans on retiring.

(Insert joke about Vontae Davis retiring at halftime). In all seriousness, we wish the best for Shell and this is nothing like when Davis infamously hung up the cleats at halftime during the regular season of a Bills game.

Depth is important, especially for the offensive line, and the Bills just lost a piece of that depth. Shell wasn't going to take the league by storm, but he was an important piece on one of the most valuable units on the team.

This past offseason, the Bills signed the former AFC East foe to a one-year deal. Across seven seasons in the NFL, Shell has played in an impressive 83 games and started 72 of them with the New York Jets, Seattle Seahawks, and Miami Dolphins most recently.

Shell could've made an impact on the roster, as the offensive line has more questions than answers, unfortunately. His departure could have the front office looking elsewhere to provide much-needed depth to the position.

We wish nothing but the best for Shell in his retirement. We were just hoping for one season to pair with Josh Allen.

Brandon Beane needs to pick up the phone and start making some phone calls.
