The New Orleans Saints made an important move on Tuesday. They shrunk their wide receiver competition down by one.
According to multiple sources, the Saints are releasing veteran wide receiver James Washington. Their corresponding move is signing running back Darrel Williams.
Washington struggled when he was on the field on Sunday versus the Kansas City Chiefs. He finished the contest without a catch.
Meanwhile, rookie A.T. Perry impressed in a big way, and Bryan Edwards made a couple of nice plays, too. Jontre Kirklin had an impact on special teams, and Keith Kirkwood caught a touchdown. Ultimately, Washington was just the odd man out from Sunday.
The Saints believe that some of the other options provide more upside than Washington. It's the right move – based on performances in camp and preseason game one for New Orleans.
