The Detroit Lions decided to experiment at the start of camp when they made a trade with the New York Jets to bring in Denzel Mims. The former second round pick showed a lot of promise coming into the league, but it just hasn't worked out for him in the NFL. The thought was that maybe he could get a new start in Detroit. Unfortunately for Mims, it has not worked out here either. 

Mims looked pretty good in the early going, but an injury early in August has kept him out for a while now and it looked more and more like the writing was on the wall for him. Especially after Thursday when the Lions spoke about looking for receiver depth. 

The good thing for the Lions is that they traded a conditional pick to the Jets for Mims. The condition of that pick was that Mims would make the roster. He has not. That means the Lions get their sixth round pick back. 

The bad news is that the Lions are sort of back to where they were before that trade and are looking to fill some depth. We'll see where that goes int he coming weeks.
