When the Las Vegas Raiders decided to go with Tyree Wilson for their first pick in the 2023 NFL draft, their quarterback options weren't great. They needed defense and went with the best guy available on that side of the ball.

However, Wilson had an injury problem that kept him from being selected for the six spots before the Raiders picked him. Las Vegas did their research, talked to doctors, Wilson, etc., and felt comfortable with the situation.

Now, Wilson has still yet to show up to training camp. Some fans are worried that the Raiders just drafted a guy who may have an injury worse than what appears. That the Raiders may have just drafted a guy they shouldn't.

Even though he hasn't been on the field, Wilson is still doing things to improve. General manager Dave Ziegler recently gave an update on the seventh-overall pick.

"Yeah, what we're able to evaluate right now is that he's on a rehab plan and program to continue to come back from the foot injury," Dave Ziegler said. "So we've been able to evaluate just his approach, his professionalism, his maturity, how he is in the classroom. And we've been able to grow in some of those areas, too, as all rookies need to grow in those areas.

"So he's made a lot of progress in those different areas that don't come on the field, which I think has been a good thing for him to be able to focus on that, and he's continuing to make progress. We'll be excited to see him when he's out there and see how he can impact the defense."

Wilson will be able to make an instant impact when he is able to play. The Raiders' pass rush could have been better, as it was basically just Maxx Crosby most of the time. Sure, Chandler Jones ended with a few sacks, but he was virtually non-existent most of the year.

However, the Raiders knew about this when they drafted Wilson, just like they did when they signed Jimmy Garoppolo. In their view, everything is fine.
