New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is the offense's new leader. It's been no secret that he has established himself amongst his peers on the field and in the locker room. Around him, he has a lot of talent on the Saints offense. At skill positions, Alvin Kamara, Chris Olave, and Taysom Hill are key pieces. Their depth is impressive as well.
On the offensive line, they have proven starters. The biggest question mark may be at offensive tackle. James Hurst held down one of those role last year, but Trevor Penning could be in line to start this year. The former first-round pick has impressed so far in training camp, and Derek Carr has noticed his demeanor and improvement.
"He's a very violent individual… He wants to be physical, he wants to assert his dominance in the run game, in the pass game, all those kinds of things. Cool thing too is, (defensive end) Cam Jordan came up to him, was talking to him about something after our set, and you hear him like, 'Oh, yeah, yeah, I got you. That makes sense.'So as aggressive as he is, he's also willing to learn and grow as a player. I'm excited about him…
He's a different cat, but you don't want everyone to be normal in the front when they're protecting you." Carr on Penning via NFL.com
If Penning can lock down the starting job and show consistency, that will go a long way for Carr and the Saints offense. They need that from him after using a first-rounder on him last year.
