There have been a lot of doubts about Trey Lance's accuracy during his time with the 49ers.

On Monday, however, he was the most accurate quarterback during San Francisco's first padded practice.

Lance delivered arguably his best practice since the 49ers drafted him third overall in 2021, outperforming both Brock Purdy and Sam Darnold in going nine of 11 throwing during the team period while working with the second-team offense.

His performance featured several extremely impressive throws, the best of which came as he fit the ball in to Ray-Ray McCloud over the middle.

McCloud had precious little separation from the defender in coverage. However, Lance succeeded in delivering an anticipatory throw, leading his receiver to the football, putting it in a spot where only McCloud, who made an impressive diving grab, could get it.

The throw was completed with John Lynch watching on from the sideline, the general manager enjoying a perfect view as Lance vindicated his earlier words of praise for a quarterback whose future with the team has been the subject of much conjecture following Purdy's ascension to the starting role.

It remains to be seen how much longer Lance will be with the team that once viewed him as the future of the franchise, but he will have a much better chance of beating out Darnold to be the primary backup should he continue to display the kind of accuracy that was evident on Monday.
