A member of the Kansas City Chiefs is on the road to recovery after undergoing successful surgery on an injury suffered during training camp practice.

Second-year CB Nazeeh Johnson suffered a torn ACL in practice and was subsequently placed on injured reserve. It ends his 2023 NFL season prematurely — a season in which he was poised to carve out an expanded role on defense.

Johnson's mom, Kisha Brown, took to the social media platform formerly known as Twitter to deliver news that his ACL surgery was successful. She posted a picture of Johnson smiling in a hospital bed with the following caption: "Surgery was a Success! Now time for Recovery! God is Good."

Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo spoke about Johnson's injury with the media on Jul. 31.

"I’m really sad to see that happen to (Nazeeh Johnson)," Spagnuolo said. "He was really climbing. If you guys notice he was taking reps with the first (team) because he had earned it. He’s got a really good corner skill set. I mean, he played safety in college. We’ll pray he gets healthy real quick and gets back."

The average NFL player returns to action following a torn ACL in about a year, but every timeline and player differs. Even if Johnson were to make a miraculous recovery, his placement on injured reserve prior to the start of the season ends his season. The Chiefs will hope for a speedy recovery so that Johnson can get back on track as a contributor during the 2024 NFL season.
