The New Orleans Saints will have a plethora of options at pick 29 in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Defensive line and secondary seem like the most likely options. That being said, tight end is on the table for sure.
The Saints brought back Juwan Johnson on a multi-year deal, but New Orleans love having an impressive TE duo.
Taysom Hill is technically a tight end, but his role involves much more than that. More depth at that spot would allow him more touches from the backfield, too.
In his latest mock draft, Daniel Jeremiah has the Saints selecting Notre Dame TE Michael Mayer.
Mayer would be an excellent value pick at this point in Round 1. He is a complete tight end, and Derek Carr would have a reliable security blanket on third down.
Mayer is arguably the best tight end prospect in the entire class. Getting him at the end of the first round would be fantastic value.
His receiving production was undeniable at ND, and his abilities after the catch are really impressive compared to other players at his position.
He is a capable in-line blocker with room to improve. His frame will allow for that as well.
Mayer will be an option for the Saints in the first round, but the question will be whether or not he lasts until their pick.
