Former Titan would be perfect fit for a return to Tennessee
Bringing back former Tennessee Titans kicker Ryan Succop would be a perfect fit for the 2023 Titans.
Former Tennessee Titans kicker Ryan Succop was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week, immediately making him a free agent.
Succop spent three seasons in Tampa Bay, including an impressive 2020 season where he made 28 of his 32 field goal attempts. Succop also made a perfect nine out of nine field goals during Tampa Bay's run to the Super Bowl LV title.
The Titans, who released veteran kicker Randy Bullock earlier this offseason, are back in the market for a reliable kicker. A return for Succop to Tennessee could be a perfect scenario for both parties.
Succop was the Titans kicker from 2014-2019, and prior to his disastrous 2019 season that got him cut by the team, he had a some very productive years in two-tone blue.
In his first five seasons in Tennessee, Succop made 86.5 percent of his field goal attempts and over 94 percent of his extra points.
In 2019, however, things began to fall apart. Succop had a surgery on his knee following the 2018 season and it did not go as well as he had hoped. Succop spent time on the PUP list before returning, but his knee issues carried over into the regular season where he started by making just one of his first six field goal attempts.
The Titans then parted ways with Succop, who would land in Tampa Bay one year later with a healthy knee and a starting job.
Now, Succop is a free agent, and the Titans are looking for their new starting kicker. Second-year kicker Caleb Shudak remains on the roster, but Tennessee is still expected to look for a solution in free agency or the upcoming NFL Draft.
A Ryan Succop reunion could make a lot of sense.
