The New Orleans Saints got another solid deal done this week. In a depth move, they signed defensive back Lonnie Johnson Jr. to a one-year deal.

Johnson, 27, has three interception sin nineteen starts over the last four seasons.

He will provide a bit of experience on the back end at multiple positions. He has spent time at both safety and cornerback at the NFL level.

As a veteran, he will receive a salary benefit. Johnson will count for just $1.09 million against the Saints' cap this year.

That's a great price for a defensive depth piece that provides help in multiple spots.

The Saints need players like Johnson to simply be consistent when asked to fill in during short stints.

They are not tied to him long-term, either, so if it doesn't work out, the Saints can pull the plug rather easily. Regardless, another smart deal by the front office in New Orleans.
