Jim Nantz randomly calls into Nashville radio station to talk about Derrick Henry trade rumors
Legendary CBS announcer Jim Nantz called into 104.5 The Zone on Monday to talk about a variety of topics, including those trade rumors about Titans RB Derrick Henry
Monday got a little spicy in Nashville thanks to a report from Bally Sports' Mike Silver that the Tennessee Titans are shopping superstar running back Derrick Henry.
The former Alabama star is set to be a free agent after the 2023 season.
Henry is coming off a season in which he rushed for 1,538 yards and 13 touchdowns in 16 games.
On Monday afternoon, legendary announcer Jim Nantz randomly called into 104.5 The Zone's 3HL and had some things to say about the Henry trade rumors during his surprise call.
"I hear you talking about Derrick, I hear you talking about all this trade talk," said Nantz during his call. "Let me just weigh in on that since I cover the NFL…I just don't see you trading Derrick Henry."
"First off, if you're worried about what it's going to cost you against the cap, we all know the running back position is the cheapest position on the field other than special teamer — it's crazy the way it's worked out," continued Nantz. "Derrick has served this community so well. And I think he's got a couple of really big years still remaining. I'm not saying it's five years, but there are other parts that need to be addressed well before we talk about doing anything with 22."
Nantz clearly doesn't think the Titans should move on from Henry.
And based on a report from CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones on Tuesday, it sounds like the Titans agree.
Jones reported that despite the report from Bally Sports, the Titans aren't shopping Henry.
"I know there's talk that the Titans are shopping running back Derrick Henry but my sources tell me they are not. I had been told general manager Ran Carthon would be "methodical" in his approach to free agency and changes to the team," reported Jones.
Sounds like Nantz will get his wish. 22 doesn't appear to be going anywhere.
