Chiefs, Reid

The Kansas City Chiefs just won the Super Bowl in a season that was supposed to be a re-tooling year. In other words, they weren't even supposed to make the playoffs, just ask Bart Scott of ESPN.

But they did and they ran the table. They did it with a bunch of rookies who actually played valuable snaps and some started games. Oh, and they added some free agents too.

One of those free agents had one of the better seasons of his career because it seems that's the general theme when players come to Kansas City. In a way, they are the Patriots, where Brady revitalizes players' careers. It is also a place where veterans go to get a ring before their career is gone.

Overall, Kansas City is a place where guys just get better, and that happened with several players this season. But, to Pro Football Focus, no one improved more from one season to the next than safety Justin Reid.

"After an impressive first two seasons in the league with the Houston Texans, Reid struggled in 2020 and 2021 before joining the Chiefs this past offseason. Playing 1,311 snaps in the regular season and playoffs for the eventual Super Bowl winner, Reid registered a career-high 27 tackles resulting in a defensive stop."

In his fifth season, Reid became a Super Bowl champ by joining the Chiefs and replacing Tyrann Mathieu, which was already something that would be hard to do. He had a great season, I agree.

But, I think there are also other you could give this title to that maybe improved more than Reid did. To me, the stats may not completely show it, but Willie gay Jr. improved so much from last season to this one, especially in coverage.

If you just look at the Super Bowl tape, Gay Jr. was the best linebacker on the field. Sure, Bolton had the touchdown, but that was just simply because hurts dropped the ball, literally.

But hey, I'm not mad at the selection, which is based on their grades, but I would have picked Gay Jr.
