Neyland Stadium, the home of the Tennessee Vols is going to have a new look and a new feature in the coming years.
The historic stadium, which is over 100 years old, is reportedly going to have a hotel built next to it in the next five years.
According to multiple reports, Tennessee's "master plan" includes building a hotel next to Neyland.
The hotel would be built on the south side of the stadium facing the Tennessee river (right beside the G4 parking deck).
This idea is in the works in The University of Tennessee’s Master Plan, which will be presented at UT’s System Board of Trustees winter meeting on Thursday, Feb. 23 and Friday, Feb. 24.
The university is already mapping out where this hotel would go. The master plan includes the hotel and other athletic facilities being renovated and expanded. UT said this will hopefully improve the game day experience for Volunteer fans and sets university athletics in a good spot for the future of the programs.
Many students are worried if this is even necessary right now, considering the space crisis the UT campus is experiencing. Hogan Wayland, a sophomore at UT, is one of those students who voiced their concerns.
Hotels near stadiums are extremely common in pro sports — the Atlanta Braves and the Battery for example. It was only a matter of time before they made their way to the college game. And it's no surprise that Tennessee and Vols athletic director Danny White are at the forefront of bringing this idea to college football.
