The Philadelphia Eagles have been quietly combing over potential candidates for the vacant defensive coordinator position.
Jonathan Gannon bolted to take the Arizona Cardinals head coaching gig after the season, which was celebrated by some Eagles fans. But finding Gannon’s replacement hasn’t happened as quickly as most thought it might.
Defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson is one of the names Philadelphia is considering. Wilson joined the Eagles’ staff in 2021 and was given the added responsibility as the defensive passing game coordinator last offseason.
Wilson’s biggest supporters just so happen to be some of the Eagles’ biggest stars. Cornerback Darius Slay and safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson took to Twitter to shine a light on Wilson’s impact.
Time will tell if Philadelphia opts for an in-house promotion, but it just might be Wilson’s time to shine. He has 15 years of NFL experience from starting as a scout with the Bears in 2008, making multiple stops along the way, and to climbing the ranks to his current responsibilities under Nick Sirianni.
The down side of a Super Bowl run is that the Eagles don’t have many viable options to choose from as the top coordinator candidates were swooped up quickly. Wilson might just be the best available option as the Eagles could opt for continuity after prospering in 2022.
