Former Vikings great signs with NFC foe
A Minnesota Vikings fan-favorite takes on a new challenge in his career by signing with his new team.
The Minnesota Vikings released fan-favorite WR Adam Thielen just over a week ago. The move was made to create salary cap flexibility, but the former Vikings great has found a new home.
Pat McAfee reports that Thielen has signed a three-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. Thielen confirmed McAfee’s report via Twitter with a GIF.
Thielen, 32, spent nine great seasons in Minnesota. He totaled 534 receptions for 6,682 receiving yards and 55 receiving touchdowns. Thielen has the Vikings’ third-most catches and receiving touchdowns. He is fourth all-time in receiving yards.
Thielen played a key role in some of the team's best moments over the last decade. His play-making ability helped capture the heart of the fanbase and has earned him a high standing in Vikings lore.
It’s going to feel weird when the Vikings take the field next season without No. 19 in purple and gold. However Thielen and the Vikings will meet again sooner rather than later. Minnesota travels to Carolina for an NFC matchup this upcoming season in what is sure to be an emotional reunion for both parties.
