One Lions player seems open to the idea of trading for former MVP
One member of the Detroit Lions was caught red-handed liking tweets about a potential trade involving one of the NFL’s biggest stars.
Tuesday was the NFL’s official deadline for teams to use a franchise tag on players with expiring contracts. The day came and went with quite a few eyebrow-raising decisions, but one Lions player has exhibited interest in swooping in on the biggest name tagged at the deadline.
The Baltimore Ravens elected to use the nonexclusive franchise tag on QB Lamar Jackson. This means that Jackson has the ability to negotiate with other teams, but the Ravens will have an opportunity to match any offer he gets.
This was not the result Jackson wanted as the two sides have been sorting through contract negotiations after an underwhelming 2022 campaign for the 2019 MVP.
The possibility that Jackson plays elsewhere in 2023 seems to be growing. After inspecting Lions WR Jameson Williams’ Twitter profile, he might be making a silent push for Detroit to move in on one of football’s biggest names.
Williams like numerous tweets on Tuesday relating to Jackson. One in particular that proposed a hypothetical scenario involving Jackson landing with the Lions.
Obviously Jackson has a bit more star power than Jared Goff. However, Goff proved to be effective last season. Sure, Detroit could move off of his contract, but he did plenty to inspire confidence heading into 2023.
There will be plenty of surprises throughout the offseason, but the Lions trading for Jackson likely won’t be one of them. But don’t tell Jameson Williams that.
