The Philadelphia Eagles managed to turn plenty of heads and raise twice as many eyebrows in their run to their Super Bowl last season. Though the Eagles have kept most of the team’s core intact, there is one national media outlet casting doubt on Philly’s chances in 2023.

Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr recently released an article with 100 bold predictions for the upcoming season. Included in this list was one especially bold take predicting that the Eagles will not win the NFC East in the 2023 season.

In fairness, there hasn’t been a repeat winner in the NFC East since the Eagles down four straight divisional titles from 2001-2004. Although it’s been a while since then, this Eagles team has the star power, experience, coaching staff and front office to complete this particular mission.

From SI: "This is based on nothing other than my internal sense that whenever everyone thinks the Eagles will be really good, they turn out to be just O.K. Whenever the Eagles are supposed to be just O.K., they end up being really good. Call it deep scarring from the Dream Team summer of Vince Young and Nnamdi Asomugha (who was amazing in The Good Nurse, by the way). And don’t forget this division hasn’t had a repeat winner since these Eagles way back in 2004."

This isn’t one of Orr’s most convincing opinions, but Eagles fans would probably agree that their favorite team oftentimes falls shy of lofty expectations. But looking at Philadelphia’s roster compared to the other teams in the division there is a wide gap in talent.

And that’s not to throw shade at any specific team within the NFC East. It’s an objective truth. The only squad that can hold a candle to what GM Howie Roseman has built in Philly is the San Francisco 49ers, and they have a major question at quarterback to address.

This silly prediction is just that, silly. The Eagles enter the season as the odds-on favorite to sit atop the NFC East’s throne yet again. It would take an act of God for that sentiment to change before Week 1 arrives.
