The Philadelphia Eagles put the football world on notice last season by blitzing through the NFC en route to their second Super Bowl appearance in six years. With most of their core returning, the Eagles are continuing to generate plenty of buzz throughout the offseason.
Philadelphia’s defense was the best in the NFL just a season ago. With one of the best pass rushes the sport has ever seen couple with a secondary full of stars, it’s no surprise that plenty of the key cogs to last year’s defense are receiving significant praise at just about every turn.
Pro Football Focus is the latest national media outlet to show the Birds some love. PFF’s Sam Monson recently released an article ranking the top 32 cornerbacks the NFL has to offer heading into the 2023 season.
Darius Slay and James Bradberry are the league’s top tandem at the cornerback position. Both players excelled in 2022, which was enough for them to land on PFF’s list.
Slay, who is in the conversation for the best cover cornerback in football, checks in at No. 3.
From PFF: "Slay had another excellent year in Philadelphia, and his effectiveness was only enhanced by James Bradberry‘s arrival. Slay allowed 54.7% of passes thrown into his coverage to be caught during the regular season and let up fewer than 25 yards in each of his three playoff games."
Eagles fans don’t have to scroll much further down to find Bradberry at No. 13. Two top-13 cornerbacks playing on the same team feels like an NFL cheat code.
In a pass-happy NFL, having world class talent in the secondary provides the Eagles with an edge other teams don’t have. If Slay and Bradberry can build off of their strong showing last season, the Eagles will have a fantastic opportunity to return to football’s biggest stage.
