Talk about a massive development for the Tennessee Titans!
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the team is hosting WR DeAndre Hopkins on Sunday for a visit. The free agent wide receiver was released earlier on May 26th by the Arizona Cardinals.
Hopkins and Titans head coach Mike Vrabel are no strangers with each other as they spent time together in Houston when Vrabel was with the Texans as linebackers coach (2014-2016) and defensive coordinator (2017).
Although the news may come as surprising considering the three-time First-Team All-Pro was expected to look at some of the top contenders in the AFC, prior reports already suggested Hopkins is prioritizing the payout over a ring chase.
"Hopkins publicly has expressed a strong desire to play with Bills quarterback Josh Allen, but one of the league executives, who has communicated with Hopkins’ camp, said his preferred passer won’t supersede his preferred payout," The Athletic's Tim Graham wrote in an article earlier this month.
The Titans could certainly use the boost at wide receiver. Their current group of projected starters features Treylon Burks, Chris Moore, and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine which is far from an inspiring group of names.
Although it's Hopkins' first free agency visit we know about, the Titans aren't the only team looking into him. Pelissero did note there's "mutual interest" between the two sides, which is highlighted by the visit itself.
Per Over the Cap, the Titans currently have $7.99 million in cap space. Hopkins is known to be seeking a deal similar to Odell Beckham Jr.'s $15 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
