The Detroit Lions continue to add talented veterans on the defensive side of the ball.

The Lions announced the signing of DL Christian Covington to the team’s 90-man roster on Wednesday, per his agent David Canter. Covington has spent eight seasons in the NFL since being drafted by the Houston Texans in the sixth round of the 2015 NFL Draft.

Covington has bounced around the league making one-year stops with the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys. He arrives in Detroit after spending the past two seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers.

He appeared in 20 games over the last two seasons, starting in three of them. Covington registered 64 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack and one forced fumble in that timespan.

Covington’s 6’2” 290-pound frame brings size to the interior of the Lions defensive line. He joins a position group featuring Alim McNeil, Levi Onwuzurike, John Cominsky, Josh Paschal, Isaiah Buggs, Benito Jones and third-round pick in the 2023 draft Brodric Martin.
