There are a few positions in the NFL where you can draft a guy with the highest level of certainty that they will produce in their first year.
It's never an absolute certainty, but linebackers and running backs tend to translate at some of the highest rates, and it works that the Detroit Lions addressed both positions in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Jack Campbell, the linebacker out of Iowa, was the second first-round pick for the Lions in their newest class. Dan Campbell has an obvious plan for the rookie.
Starting as a rookie always makes sense for a linebacker in the first round, especially for a team like the Lions that has so few options at the position.
Campbell is going to be under a lot of pressure as a rookie on a team that has a huge need for help on defense, but the Lions are clearly confident enough in what he can do to put him in that role early.
Confidence from a coaching staff in a rookie is a good thing. Hopefully Jack Campbell can live up to the hype and help the Lions with their playoff push this year.
