The New Orleans Saints have their starting quarterback. It's Derek Carr, and they believe that they can contend with the veteran at the helm. Before the draft, many would have thought that recently re-signed QB Jameis Winston would be the only other QB on the roster consistently.
Now, that may not be the case for the Saints. They drafted Fresno State QB Jake Haener in the fourth round. New Orleans holds him in high regards.
The latest NFL news may help the Saints keep Haener available on game days, too.
The league approved a rule that allows teams to have a third QB on their roster for game days without using a roster spot.
The Saints are one of a handful of teams to have three QBs on their roster (Carr, Winston, Haener). The third QB can only be used in an instance where the first two suffer injuries, though. The move cannot be performance/decision-based.
Regardless, this move by the NFL is very notable for the Saints.
