The Minnesota Vikings are turning over every stone in order to assemble the proper competition at certain position groups with training camp looming ahead.
The Vikings’ latest addition comes in the form of XFL standout wide receiver Dontavian “Lucky” Jackson. Minnesota waived EDGE Kenny Willekes in a corresponding move made to create a spot for Jackson.
In his 2022 campaign with the D.C. Defenders, Jackson registered 36 catches for 572 receiving yards and five touchdowns in 10 games. He finished fifth in the XFL in receiving yards, which was one spot in front of former All-Pro NFLer Josh Gordon.
Jackson played his college ball at Western Kentucky. In his redshirt senior season in 2019, Jackson broke out for a whopping 94 catches, 1,133 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Prior to signing with the Vikes, Jackson has made pit stops in The Spring League (2021), the CFL’s Edmonton Elks (2022) and most recently the XFL.
Jackson’s knack for creating separation could bode well for the Vikings’ high-flying passing offense if he’s able to crack the 53-man active roster. He joins a competitive group at the wide receiver position featuring Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, K.J. Osborn, Jalen Reagor, Jalen Nailor, and Brandon Powell among others.
