The Denver Broncos franchise guy is ready for the upcoming season after letting fans know how his offseason has been.
Last year just wasn't good – for Russell Wilson, for Nathaniel Hackett, for the fans, for anyone. It sucked, to be blunt. But, as the old saying goes, there is always next year.
Sure, that is usually used when a team loses a meaningful game that costs them their season, but in this case, we are talking an entire season, because that's how bad they were. This season is a clean slate.
For Wilson, there are a lot of things he has to get corrected, and it started with his health. Before the last few seasons, and it has never really been anything major, he was an iron man. He didn't miss any games for his first nine years in the league. In the last two years, he has missed five games.
That's not bad, but like we said, he never missed a game before that. So, that's what Wilson worked on, and it shows. He looks like he is in the best shape he has ever been.
"You always want to be in the best shape of your life," Wilson told the media on Thursday. "You know, I'm ready for that. I feel better than ever, I think also too, you know, mentally there's always the journey, there's always the journey of the highs and lows. There have been a lot of highs, there's been some tough lows but adversity you got to be able to handle it all and I'll be ready to handle it."
He looks great too. He has easily lost a few pounds and put on some muscle, even though when asked how much weight he had lost, he wouldn't disclose that information.
This is one of the most important off-season's of Wilson's life. This is the offseason that matters the most for him at this moment because of everyone doubting him. Everyone thinks he doesn't have it anymore, or maybe never had it. This is where he proves them wrong, hopefully.
"I want to have the best off-season of my life and these guys, the team bonding, everybody that's putting in the work, it's been amazing," Wilson continued. "Just the work ethic, the locker room, everybody's really. And I think ultimately, we want to be the best version of ourselves. Obviously, you know, with me too, I want to be the best version of me and I'm looking forward to the work of it all."
The Broncos will rely on Wilson to make a lot of crucial plays, even though the offensive system is changing. Sean Payton will use a lot of 21 personnel, which means he will have two running backs and one tight end a lot of times.
Usually, when teams run 21, they run the ball a lot. That's what Payton likes to do and that's what he will do. But, the run game won't always be there, and even when it is, they are going to rely on him to hit those deep balls.
But it seems like he has one of the most important things down when it comes to this offseason.
"I feel lean and mean."
