Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs shared a story this week that perfectly illustrates current UT quarterback Joe Milton's elite leadership abilities.
Milton, a redshirt senior who transferred to Tennessee from Michigan in 2021, is expected to serve as the Volunteers' starting quarterback in 2023.
The Florida native will be taking the reigns from Hendon Hooker, who led UT to memorable victories in 2022 against Florida, LSU, and Alabama.
Dobbs, who signed with the Cleveland Browns earlier this offseason, appeared on "Josh and Swain" this week and he detailed a recent workout that he had with Milton in Knoxville.
The former Vols quarterback said he called Milton and asked if he wanted to get together to work out during one of Dobbs' recent visits to Rocky Top.
Dobbs told Josh and Swain that he showed up on a Friday night at 9 PM and Milton had every wide receiver in the facility ready to work.
Dobbs: “I remember I texted Joe, I was like ‘I’ll be in town Friday, want to get a workout in? Or do y’all want to?’ He was like, ‘Cool, I’ll get it set up.’ Then showing up Friday, 9 PM and he has every receiver out there. They’re in warmup lines — they’re ready to go get some work in. It was really cool seeing their work ethic…really cool seeing that culture from the guys, the current guys on campus there at Tennessee. It’s cool hanging out with them, throwing with them…It’s all about that fraternity, continuing to build that fraternity. To be able to be a part of it, man, I know it means a lot to me and it means a lot to them."
Hooker proved to be an elite leader during his two seasons at Tennessee. And it looks like Milton is picking up right where Hooker left off.
The Vols' quarterback situation is certainly in good hands moving forward with Milton. And the exciting part for Tennessee fans is that Milton is going to pass along what he knows about being a leader to true freshman Nico Iamaleava.
