In some ways, Sean Payton has his work cut out for him. In others, things are set up beautifully for him to succeed.
One of the areas that we can't imagine Payton losing sleep over is that of the defense. Specifically, the secondary and Justin Simmons.
In fact, in a recent ranking from NFL coaches, executives, scouts, and players, the league thought that Simmons was the third-best safety in the entire league. Simmons, in the ESPN article, was ranked behind only Minkah Fitzpatrick and Derwin James.
Simmons totaled 69 tackles, six interceptions, and seven passes defended in only 12 games last season. If he can remain healthy, don't be surprised if Simmons bumps up a spot or two next season.
However, the recent victory Simmons and the organization received was that of Simmons' recent Madden ratings. Madden has given Simmons, and the organization, their flowers, potentially indicating a shift from last season at least from an optics standpoint.
This gives the team a huge boost in morale, which cannot be overstated. The team needs some more positivity thrown their way after the abysmal collapse that was last season. Any good news shows that the organization is putting its best foot forward.
In their ratings, Madden has Simmons at a 92 overall. Only behind Minkah Fitzpatrick for the Free Safety position and third behind Derwin James and Fitzpatrick for the overall Safety position.
Simmons, with a full slate of games under his belt, will be an absolute game-changer for the defense and someone the front office is relying on not only on the field but in the locker room as well.
Broncos: Justin Simmons makes a guarantee he may not be able to back up
The Denver Broncos were able to end their season on a good note, after all the bad that has happened to them all season long. I don't need to go over all of it, because I think we all know what has transpired this season. Not to mention who wants to be reminded of it. […]
