My friends, over at my old stomping grounds, Pride of Detroit bring up some interesting things about LaPorta's deal. The biggest note is that Sam LaPorta is going to get part of his fourth year guaranteed. 20% of it be exact. That's more than any second round pick last season and it's 5% more than Michael Mayer who got picked directly after LaPorta.
While this is certainly a different thing than usual. It's nothing to worry about. Second round picks are starting to get more and more benefits that first round picks get. Don't be surprised if Brian Branch gets something similar worked into his deal.
As for whos' left, It's just Brian Branch as we mentioned and 12th overall pick Jahmyr Gibbs. They both should be signed very soon. At least before the start of camp at the end of July.
LaPorta had a very good OTA's and Mandatory mini camp. It should be fun to see what he can bring to the team is his rookie year. the chances seem good that he'll be around to collect the rest of that fourth year when that time comes.
