When San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy burst on the scene, it took almost everyone by surprise.

But his success, according to fullback Kyle Juszczyk, Purdy's success was something that was bound to happen.

"He's a football player, like the guy has just played a lot of ball," said Juszczyk on The Rich Eisen show. "He started since he was a freshman at Iowa State, so he played a lot of games. When you're playing that position, especially at quarterback, you just need those reps, you need those live reps, those live bullets, and just certain little things, timing things, natural reactions. They just get engrained in your head and you're just not thinking as much out there, you're just reacting, and I felt like that was what he was doing.

"He was so well prepared that he didn't have to overthink things. And he really just, he just ran the offense. He didn't try to do too much, he trusted in the playmakers that he had, he's got a plethora of weapons in our offense, and he didn't try to take on too much… It sounds so simple, but it's so much harder to do than just say it."

That is an interesting perspective on Purdy's game. Throughout the offseason, John Lynch has silently coronated Purdy as the quarterback of the future. Despite having Trey Lance and Sam Darnold on the roster, Lynch has said that Purdy will take first-team reps as soon as he comes back near the start of the 2023 season.

But the Niners' fullback wants everyone to know that Purdy's success was no surprise. He's studied the game. And with the backing of the organization, he will try and take the next step toward being the franchise's long-term answer at quarterback.
