It's no secret that the rivalry between the Bengals and the Kansas City Chiefs has turned into a very competitive one, and the back-and-forth between the two teams has been classic as of late.
After Bengals All-Pro wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase referred to Joe Burrow as the best player in the league, he pretty much scoffed when Patrick Mahomes was mentioned, although it was a statement that his quarterback made himself. Chase simply said "Pat Who?" in response, and of course it caused some buzz on the NFL streets.
The retaliation for that was epic.
Mahomes posted a picture during the Chiefs ring ceremony rocking his bling with a "That's Who" caption on it, essentially rubbing it in the face of Chase and the Bengals because the Chiefs have already found the answer while they are still trying to figure out the question. Never one to shy away from defending Mahomes, All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce let Chase know that he was to never disrespect Mahomes again while doing a podcast with his brother Jason Kelce of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Burrow recently sat down with Complex to discuss the Bengals' rivalry with the Chiefs and other topics. When he was asked about the words exchanged between Chase and the Chiefs stars, Burrow gave an answer that fits his personality.
“The best thing about that is it's all settled on the field," said Burrow. "So we'll see them in December.”
Cincinnati will travel to Kansas City in Week 17 for a New Year's Ever battle that will likely have huge ramifications when it comes to the playoff picture in the AFC.
Ever since Burrow tore his ACL as a rookie, all he's done is turn the Bengals into a juggernaut with back-to-back AFC North crowns and conference title game appearances, and a Super Bowl berth since 2021.
Mahomes just won his second title, Super Bowl MVP, and league MVP, so his status as the best quarterback is secured. However, Burrow won three consecutive starts head-to-head against Mahomes before last season's AFC title game, and one was on the road for a trip to the Super Bowl. Plus, Burrow has knocked out Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills in the postseason, so he has the advantage over his biggest threats in the AFC.
Just after the Bengals defeated the Baltimore Ravens during their deep playoff run a season ago, Burrow let it be known that his team wasn't going anywhere anytime soon when it came to the championship picture.
“The window’s my whole career,” said Burrow. “And everybody that we have in that locker room, all the coaches we have, things are going to change year to year. But, our window is always open.”
Cool, calm, and collected. That's Burrow, he just goes about his business, produces on a high level, and wins games, and he can back up anything he says.
