The Green Bay Packers stud just did something for the first time in Packers history in 10 years, which helped land him on an elite ESPN poll.
In 2022, the Packers weren't as good as some of us had hoped they would be. However, they ended up having some players have really good seasons. For cornerback Jaire Alexander, he had his best season yet.
Alexander is one of the best in the league at his position. The cornerback position is the second hardest to play in football behind the quarterback, yet, Alexander has times where he makes it look fairly easy.
He was able to do something that no Packers player has done in ten years, which only helped propel him into an elite ESPN poll. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN does rankings by position yearly, but he bases the rankings on what executives, coaches, and others around the league say. He then has them all rank the players at each position and compiles it together in a consensus ranking. After gathering everything Fowler got, people around the league think Alexander is the fourth-best cornerback in the league.
Here is what some of the people around the league think about Alexander:
A favorite with the voters for his toughness and activity despite a 5-foot-10 frame, Alexander goes back-to-back years in the top five. His five interceptions last season tied his career total through his first four years. They were also tied for the most by a Packers player over the past ten seasons.
"Ultra-competitor with great ball skills, so good things usually happen when he's on the field," a veteran NFL scout said. "Has ideal man-to-man matchup traits."
Alexander held quarterbacks to a 66.4 rating on 79 targets as the nearest defender, allowing 7.1 yards per attempt with 14 pass deflections.
"Smart, competitive, tough, can play inside or outside, run support and ball awareness," a senior NFL personnel executive said. – ESPN
Alexander has proved he is one of the best in the league. He let one matchup get the best of him when he played Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson, but that happens to everyone, as Jefferson is the best of the best. Later in Week 16, Alexander held Jefferson to one catch for 15 yards.
Fourth is perfect for Alexander. He is easily one of the best five cornerbacks in the league. The Packers aren't expected to compete for a Super Bowl in this upcoming season, but having a guy like Alexander in the defensive backfield makes their defense a threat to lock up anyone.
What Jaire Alexander’s record-setting deal means for Trevon Diggs
Massive contracts are being handed out on the regular across the NFL. It was not too long ago that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott inked the largest contract in league history. Premium players at premium players are going to get paid. Quarterbacks, offensive tackles, edge rushers, cornerbacks, and wide receivers have seen massive deals. Packers […]
