The fodder surrounding the Giants is surely due to their starting running back.

Saquon Barkley is the name that all New York fans hope will be taking handoffs this fall.

But in case he isn't here's a look at the insurance behind him:

The Likely Winner: Matt Breida

Breida is the obvious choice to be RB #2, but unlike his competition which we will highlight next, Bredia is best as a change of pace player that can help in pass pro or the short area passing game.

Giants fans hope that they won't have to deal with this scenario, but Breida could be the starter if things fall through with Barkley.

The Rookie Sleeper: Eric Gray

Gray was selected in the fifth round of April's draft but he has starter upside in my opinion. Unlike Breida, he has proven to be a workhorse back in college, with the frame and playstyle to handle an NFL workload.

No one expects him to be asked to start, but if worst comes to worst, this is a scenario that would be best, with Gray being my choice for backup running back.
