Detroit Lions fans have been waiting with baited breath to hear the news on two things. A new episode of the Lions Emmy winning Inside the Den series and news on a new alternate helmet.

The good news is that we have an answer to one of those questions today. The Lions tweeted out this picture on Monday evening and all the very easy to find clues point out that the team will drop their alternate helmet look this Wednesday.

What helmet will we see? Judging by every clue we see, this is going to be a throwback helmet for the Lions. Will the Lions finally bring back the bubble Lions logo that they had from 1960 to 2008? It seems unlikely considering that the Lions have seemingly done away with that logo completely.

You can't find it anywhere. It's not on any merchandise and it's largely absent from anything you see in the stadium. It's almost as of the Lions took that logo out to the desert and buried after of the 0-16 season. That was, of course, the final year that logo was in existence. Personally it's the one I'd liek to see return the most. I think it would be cool if the Lions moved back to their 90's look like a lot of other teams are doing these days.

I have no inside information at this time, so this is purely speculation. I think the Lions are going to use a logo that they've never used on a helmet before. Any time you go out looking for Lions throwback merchandise these days, you're met with the second logo shown here.

This is essentially the the Lions secondary logo from 1961-1969. They had some others that you don't usually see, but nothing else has ever been on the Lions helmet other than the logo you see today and the logo you saw from 1960 to 2008. That's it.

It's clear the Lions seem to favor this logo since it's on all their throwback merch. Also, I think the car might be a clue as well. I am not a car guy at all, but I did some sleuthing on the internet and this looks like it could be a 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang. Again, I am not a car expert. It could wind up being a 1993 Ford Windstar van for all I know. If it is from 1969, that logo above is form that time. Either that or the car is not a clue at all and I'm thinking too much.

We'll see soon enough what the helmet will be. This is actually pretty exciting.
